Duane Maurer has made his name in wrestling as a wrestler and as a coach. He was a two-time MAC Champion for Elizabethtown College in 1979 and 1980. In 1980, he was an All-American. As a coach, Duane first served at Pine Grove (1980-93). Prior to his tenure there, Pine Grove had lost 68 straight. In 1984, the team placed 4th in the PIAA Championships! At Schuylkill Valley (1993-present), his teams and individuals have been rock-solid. His teams have finished in the Top Ten at the PIAA Tournament twelve times. Duane has produced 14 District Team Champions and 5 PIAA Champions (Allen Daubert, JJ Fasnacht, Jake Stork, and Colin Shober (a 2-timer). Duane is a member of the Berks County and the District 3 Coaches' Associations. He and his wife Janice have two c hildren: Kyle (23) and Ryan (21).
