Timothy Gibbons, M.D.

Dr. Gibbons is a 1978 Ames High graduate and one of four legendary brothers to win a record total of 10 individual State Championships. He went on to receive his B.S. Degree from Iowa State University in 1984 and also attended the University of Alaska at Anchorage, before receiving his medical degree from the University of Iowa in 1989. He did his residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston from 1989-1994. He followed that with a fellowship in orthopedic Sports Medicine at the University of Iowa and in 1998 received his diploma from the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. As a senior medical student he did an elective rotation in Maua, Kenya in East Africa, where he climbed Kilimanjaro and Mt. Kenya. Among his medical honors is the Lockhard Award in 1994 for the Best Resident Research Paper and being named as one of the Top 100 Physicians in the United States in 2002. Dr. Gibbons' military background includes the United States Army Reserve Medical Corps retired as a Lt. Col., with service in Iraq, 2002-03 and in Alaska in 2005. He is the winner of a Bronze Star. An avid recreational athlete, he enjoys running, bicycling, weight lifting and other fitness sports. A passion for the outdoors he engages in mountain climbing, rock climbing and wildlife photography. He has climbed the Devil's Tower in Wyoming. He currently practices medicine in Mason City.
