Jay Hoskey

During a 24-year coaching career at South Tama County, Mr. Hoskey orchestrated one of the strongest rebuilding efforts in Iowa prep history When he started in 1986-87, the school had a string of nine straight losing seasons and immediately posted a .500 season at 8-8 and crowned his first State Champion, Stacy Hand. In the subsequent years up to 2010 his teams won 40 invitational tournaments, 14 Sectionals and eight District titles. In the process he coached 115 State qualifiers, with 55 medal winners with eight becoming State Champions. He led his team to a record of 293-144-2 (winning percentage of 67). In 2002 the Trojans won the State Dual Team Tournament, which was the only state championship in any boys' sport in the school's history His teams also added four other top four finishes in the State Dual Team Tournament and in 2001 they finished second in the traditional State Meet one of 11 times they finished in the top five. Two of his State Champions - Wes Hand and Paul Bradley, went on to become NCAA Division I All-Americans while competing at the University of Iowa Coach. Hoskey was the 2001 Class 2A Coach-of-the-Year and in 2003 was named as the coach of the Iowa Dream Team. In 2010 he left wrestling to coach the South Tama County football squad.
