Mike Exline

One of Iowa's elite wrestling officials Mr. Exline retired from the high school ranks two years ago after 36 years of being on the whistle. His work was always embellished by acute judgment and professionalism that raised the status of the sport and motivated coaches and athletes to improve. He was a referee in 28 State Wrestling Tournaments with 27 appearances on Championship Saturday. In addition he was an official in 22 State Dual Team Meets. Not only was his expertise valued by the high schools, hut the colleges and universities benefited from his work. During his career he officiated 10 NCAA Division I National Tournaments, was summoned to do 20 NCAA Division I1 National Tournaments and two in Division 111. In addition he also officiated in 10 NAIA National Tournaments and five National Junior College meets. Also included in his resume were appearances in 10 Big Ten Conference College Tournaments and six in the Big Eight Conference Meet. Frequently asked to referee the Iowa vs. Iowa State dual meet, he also had the distinction of working the Iowa vs. Oklahoma dual when they were the top two rated teams in the nation.
