James Sauberan
James Sauberan graduated from SUNY Brockport in 1968 and began his coaching career at Kendall Central School as Assistant Wrestling Coach. The following year, 1969, he took over as Varsity Wrestling Coach, a position he would hold until he retired from coaching in 2006. During this time Jim served as Genesee League Chairman for 23 years. He was also Section V Class chairman for over 25 years. His teams won over 289 dual meets and produced 32 Section V Class Champions. During his coaching career Jim produced three New York State Scholar-Athlete teams. His teams won 17 Genesee Region Team Championships. He was named Genesee Region Coach of the Year three times, 1981 Section V Class C Coach of the Year, 1982 Section V Class D Coach of the Year, and 2001 Section V WOA Coach of the Year. In 2005, Jim was inducted into the Section V Hall of Fame. James presently resides in Brockport, with his wife Jean. They have two grown children, Jeffrey (37) and Jacqueline (42). Jim retired from coaching in 2005 but is a volunteer assistant coach with the Kendall program of Section V wrestling. Aside from volunteering his time for several years as the Genesee Region Wrestling League Coordinator, Coach Sauberan continued to help run the Section V Wrestling Tournament held each year at Rochester Institute of Technology. Jim Sauberan is a man of character and integrity and his dedication to student-athletes and the sport of wrestling has been nothing short of monumental. For his many years of dedication to the sport of wrestling, the New York Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame is pleased to recognize the accomplishments of James Sauberan by inducting him into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.
