Everett “Mickey” Hurley
October 14, 1936 - December 26, 2022
Everett "Mickey" Hurley graduated from the University of Idaho in 1960 with no previous wrestling experience.
He coached wrestling for 29 years in Oregon at Oakland High School and Bandon High School and in Idaho at Cambridge High School. Mickey founded the wrestling programs at Cambridge and Bandon, where he also created the youth wrestling program that had more than 200 participants.
Mickey's teams won 12 district championships and placed in the Top 10 at the state championships 14 times.
His wrestlers won five individual state titles.
Three-time state champion Jeff Butler received an appointment to the United States Military Academy, where he was team captain and received the outstanding scholar-athlete and outstanding wrestler awards for his class.
For his years of dedication to the development of leadership and citizenship in young people through the sport of wrestling, Everett "Mickey" Hurley is presented the Lifetime Service to Wrestling award by the Oregon Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.
