Wayne Smythe

Wayne Smythe's entire life has been wrestling.

He wrestled for Bloomsburg (1967-71), and was the1971 NAIA Champion at 142 pounds. He was the 1971 Redman Award Winner, given to the outstanding athlete at Bloomsburg University.

Wayne began his coaching career at District One Radnor High School where he was head coach (1971-72) then he moved to Warrior Run High School in 1972 and continues to serve as head coach even though he has retired from teaching.

He has been a highly respected and extraordinarily successful coach and is approaching 500 wins as a head coach.

PIAA state place winners coached: 8 Champions, 9 Runners-up and 10 other state medalists.

His teams won League Championships in 1981-82, 1989-90, 1997-98, 2002-03 and 2006-07.

Wayne was a PIAA Registered Official (1972-1982), served as Treasurer of the PWCA from 1977-79.

He has been a highly-sought clinician all over the state.

He is a member of District Four Wrestling Coaches Association, the PA Wresting Coaches Association and the National Wrestling Coaches Association.

He and his wife Sue have two children, Amy and Shannon.
