Joseph McCabe

Joe McCabe resides in Castleton, New York with his wife, of 49 years, Evelyn. The two have three grown children, Mark, Kelli Ann, and Kristen Ann, plus 5 grandchildren. Joe retired from his position as teacher/athletic director at Schodack Central School in 1998. Following retirement Joe served one term as Schodack Town Supervisor. Joe graduated from Springfield College in 1966 following a five year stint in the U.S. Marine Corps. He earned a Masters Degree in Education Administration at SUNY Albany in 1970. Joe's primary mentor and inspiration to learn wrestling was the National Wrestling Hall of Fame coach Doug Parker at Springfield College. Doug kindled Joe's interest and provided the foundation for a sound wrestling background. Throughout his 41-year coaching career, Joe constantly learned new wrestling techniques from successful coaches and accomplished wrestlers. Joe served as varsity wrestling coach at Maple Hill High School, Castleton, New York, for 35 years. During this period he compiled 345 wins, won 14 conference championships, produced 16 Section II finalists, and four Section II Champions. He also joined the Columbia H.S., East Greenbush, New York, wrestling coaching staff 2003-2006, as a modified coach. From 2008-2011, Joe served as Assistant Varsity Coach at Columbia H.S., under Anthony Servidone. Together they produced a 56-18 record. and won 6 tournament championships, including the Virginia Duals Team Championship. Joe has received several honors. In 1973, he was named Greenbush Area News "Coach of the Year" in football and wrestling. Then, in 1988, he was named Schodack Central Schools Teacher of the Year. In 1997, he was named Section II Class D Coach of the Year in 1997 and, in 2009, he was inducted into the Section II Hall of Fame. The New York Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame is pleased to recognize the accomplishments of Joseph McCabe by inducting him into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.
