Frank Mielnicki

Frank Mielnicki was born in Uxbridge, Massachusetts and attended Springfield College where he graduated in 1957. His college graduation was delayed due to two years of military service when he served in the Korean Conflict. Frank and his wife Marie presently reside in Rochester where they raised three daughters, Lisa, Andrea, and Raelyn. Frank is retired after a teaching/coaching career of 32 years. Frank served as wrestling coach at Spencerport High School from 1958-1960. While there he compiled a 37-2-0 varsity record. In 1961 he began a long tenure as wrestling coach at Edison Technical High School, Rochester, New York, where he remained until he retired in 1990. At Edison Tech, Frank's varsity record was 224-21-0. At Spencerport High School Frank started the "Biddy" Wrestling Program -- a forerunner of today's kids' wrestling programs. Frank Mielnicki has earned many awards. In 1976, he received the Leadership Award presented by the Rochester City School District. In 1981, he received the R.T. French Award presented by the NY Coaches Association. In 1995, he was inducted into the Section 5 Wrestling Hall of Fame. In 2010, he was inducted into the City Catholic Wrestling Hall of Fame. His Edison Tech teams produced more state tournament entrants than any other city school. Twice his Edison teams produced 25 match win streaks. Frank Mielnicki coached wrestling for more consecutive years than anyone who ever coached wrestling in the Rochester city schools. He was a very successful coach as his won-loss record indicates. What is even more impressive is that he coached at Edison Tech where most of the young men were more interested in securing part time jobs that would lead to full employment. Many others were enrolled in co-op programs that made it difficult to get back to school for practice. Frank was an expert in meeting this challenge and his teams were always competitive. Along the way, his teams won many league championships and he developed many outstanding wrestlers who won Sectional titles as well as State Tournament places. The New York Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame is pleased to recognize the accomplishments of Frank Mielnicki by inducting him into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.
