Dennis Brand
The Outstanding American Award goes to a wrestler who has achieved success outside the sport of wrestling, but Dennis Brand was highly successful within the sport as well. In 1970, Brand was a Big Eight champion for the University of Oklahoma. He took the skills learned in a wrestling room to a highly successful business career. In 1993, Brand accepted a position as president of BancFirst of Shawnee. The bank's net worth was 750 million dollars at the time. In 2005, he became the CEO of the company, which currently has a net worth of 5.4 billion dollars. BancFirst is the largest state-chartered bank in Oklahoma with 90 branches in 50 communities and over 1600 employees. Brand currently serves as a board member and treasurer of the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma and was a past drive chairman for the United Way. In 1996, he was recognized with the Mary M. Gates Award from the United Way. For his achievements on and off the mat, the Oklahoma Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame honors Dennis Brand with its Outstanding American award.
