Paul Mauriello

A 1960 graduate of Edgewood Regional High School (Winslow Township Today), Mauriello's association with wrestling has now reached five decades. Following his graduation from Temple University in 1964, Mauriello's first coaching experience was two years as an assistant coach at Edgewood. After being appointed head wrestling coach at Overbrook Regional High School, Mauriello spent the next 35 years heading one of the most respected programs in southern New Jersey. His teams complied a 373-221-6 record that included 10 Christmas/Holiday Tournament titles, six District 30 championships, five Olympic Conference division titles and two South Jersey Sectional Group III championships. Individually, Mauriello was in the corner for 93 Christmas/Holiday Tournament, 64 District 30, and 14 Region 8 Champions. In the individual state tournament championships, Mauriello had three first-place winners and two wrestlers finish second, four third and two fourth. Mauriello left the head coaching ranks for two years and served as an assistant at Lindenwold. When Hammonton was in need of a head coach, Mauriello served in that position for one season. For the last five seasons he has assisted his son David, now the head coach at Hammonton. While at Overbrook, Mauriello served as assistant football coach for 41 years 9many years under his late brother Larry, who served as an assistant to Paul in wrestling) and 34 years as an assistant baseball coach. Mauriello, who received his Master's Degree in education and a New Jersey Principal/Supervisor certificate at Glassboro State College, served as Chairperson of the Health and Physical Education Department at Overbrook and held a liaison position between the administration and physical education staff. A registered New Jersey Wrestling Official Association member for 30 years, Mauriello was selected Coach of the Year in Region 8 and a Courier-Post Coach of the Year three times. He served as Vice-President of the New Jersey Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association, was President of Region 8, was a District 30 representative to the SJWCOA and has served on the Executive Committee of the South Jersey Wrestling Hall of Fame since 1981. Mauriello has been inducted into the South Jersey Wrestling Hall of Fame, South Jersey Coaches Association Hall of Fame, the New Jersey Football Coaches Hall of Fame for Assistant Coaches, and the Lower Camden County District #1 Hall of Fame. The prestigious Harry E. Lake Award for contributions to High School Wrestling in New Jersey was presented to Mauriell in 2000. Mauriello and his wife Janet live in Winslow Township and have three children- daughter Karen Tropp and sons David and Michael. Mauriello has seven grandchildren.
