Fred Brown

Fred Brown began his wrestling ofiiciating career in 1969. He also spent time on the wrestling staff of Cazenovia High School where he was assistant wrestling coach rom 1980-82. His involvement in the sport of wrestling is highlighted by his devotion and participation as a highly respected and qualified wrestling official. Fred has been recognized as a top wrestling oficial at both the high school and college levels. He has been one of the best officials in NY State as well as the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Officials Association. He has been a member of the Syracuse Wrestling Officials Association for 40 years and has served as secretary/treasurer for the New York State Wrestling Officials Association since 1991. He has been a member of the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Officials Association for 20 years and served on its executive committee for five years. Fred's expertise has been recognized by his peers and he has been selected to ofticiate many championship events. He has ofiiciated the New York State Championships six times and was ranked the #1 official three times. He has ofiiciated the New York State Collegiate Championships 15 times and served as Head Official for three years. Fred also officiated the NCAA Division III National Championships three times. He has offciated the Eastern Collegiate Championships 11 times and the Empire Conference Division III Qualifier 15 times. Fred's efforts did not go unnoticed. In 2006 The National Federation of High Schools Association named Fred "Wrestling Official of the Year" for New York State. In 2008 Fred was inducted into the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association Hall of Fame and in 2009 the Blind Men and Criers presented Fred the Joe Schwarzer Award as Outstanding Oficial. A retired Civil Engineer and father of Scott and Tracy, Fred resides in Cazenovia, New York with his wife Lauri. Not only does Fred have the respect of his peers, he has been a role model for new officials both on the high school and college level. He has been a mentor to many younger, inexperienced oficials and has taken pride in their development into top rated oficials. For his many years of dedication to the sport of wrestling, the New York Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame is pleased to recognize the accomplishments of Fred Brown by inducting him into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.
