Ronald Brunner

Ron Brunner began his wrestling career at Orchard Park High School where he was co-captain of the 1960-61 wrestling team. He also played football and baseball. Following graduation fiom high school, Ron attended Alabama College where he obtained a Bachelors Degree in Physical Education, Health, Recreation, and Dance with a minor in Biology. He graduated in 1967. He then accepted a position in the Pioneer Central School District teaching Regents biology and physical education. This turned into a 40 year coaching career at Pioneer Central School. Ron has coached every aspect of the wrestling program at Pioneer Central. He served 16 years as Junior Olympic kids wrestling coach from 1967-1983. He served 14 years as 7th & 8th Grade Wrestling Coach from 1967-1981 (record 70-5). He served 14 years as junior varsity wrestling Coach from 1970-84 (record 135-25), and he served 24 years as varsity wrestling coach from 1984-2008 (record 242-89). Since his retirement from official coaching in 2008, Ron has served as a volunteer coach for the Pioneer wrestling team and the Prestige Wrestling Club. As varsity wrestling coach, Ron mentored 17 Section 6 champions. As an assistant to Dick Post he helped coach 31 Section 6 champions. Seven of his wrestlers were New York State placewinners. Ron's wrestlers have achieved the highest level as six of them have earned All-American honors. Two of Ron's teams were Section 6 wrestling champions while six of them were Section 6 divisional team champions. During his varsity career, Ron was granted 13 Coach of the Year awards. In addition, he has already been inducted into three sports halls of fame for his many accomplishments coaching wrestling. Pioneer Central High School has been an institution where wrestling has been important for more than 40 years. Ron Brunner has had a major role in the development and maintenance of the wonderful wrestling tradition that Pioneer Central has today. This tradition began with such New York State wrestling greats as former Pioneer wrestler Keith Stems, NCAA Champion at 167 1bs. in 1978, representing Oklahoma University, and continues today with New York State Champion at 215 lbs., Kyle Coiling from Pioneer. Ron resides in West Seneca, NY with his wife Carolyn. They have a son Michael L. Studd. As an International Learning Styles Trainer, Physical Educator, and coach, Ron and is wife Carolyn have presented at many intenational conferences and worked with physical education teachers and coaches in American oversees and international Schools throughout the world. The Upstate New York Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame is pleased to recognize the accomplishments of Ron Brunner by inducting him into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.
