Kurt Davis competed in football and wrestling at Oregon College of Education, now Western Oregon University, and was a four-time letterwinner in both sports.

He led his team to a sixth-place finish at the 1972 NAIA Wrestling Championships while earning NAIA IA Scholar-Athlete accolades.

Kurt became a wrestling coach, coaching in Astoria, Culver, Grant, North Marion and Redmond, and official, officiating for more than 30 years. He was named Oregon Official of the Year in 2000 and the 1983 Portland Wrestling Association Coach of the Year.

He and his father, Gale Davis, who received the Lifetime Service to Wrestling award in 1996, became the first father and son to be honored by the Oregon Chapter.

Coached 2007 Culver football team to 2A state title A two-sport athlete at Western Oregon University, Kurt playe football (All-American honors) and wrestled for coach Gale Davis his father. He then coached for over 35 years at Astoria, NortMarion, Grant, Redmond and Culver High Schools and Redmond Obsidian Middle School.

He worked with 16 high school stat champions, 10 runners-up and over 35 state placers. Seven of his wrestlers went on to compete at NCAA Division I & I and NAIA colleges, including Haig Brown, two-time National Champion Portland State University. Kurt hosted the state Freestyle and Grec Roman tournaments while coaching at Grant and Redmond. He was selected Coach of the Year by the Portland Wrestling Officials Association in 1983 and coached the 1984 Cultural Exchange team to New Zealand. His Obsidian Middle School teams placed 1st, 2ns and 4th in the state tournament. Kurt also officiated wrestling from1976 to 2005 at high school and college levels and was selected Oregon Official of the Year for 2000. He and his wife, Maureen have been deeply involved in organization and operation of the Oregon Wrestling Classic. Kurt also coached football, and in 2000 his Culver Bulldogs won the 2A state championship, only thre years after he took over the program. He was named 2007 Football Coach of the Year.
