Jim Kinyon

Mr. Kinyon's heavy involvement in wrestling impinge5 on five decades. As a Greenfield High School prep he was a fourth place finisher in the 1964 State Tournament, He went on to wrestle at the University of Northern Iowa where he was a 1968 North Central Conference champion. One of his biggest accolades came in 1969 when Roland and Story City consolidated and he was selected to start the wrestling program, a head coaching position he held until his retirement in 2009. From infancy to maturity he developed the foundation and the tradition the Norsemen enjoy with 253 dual meet wins for a 60.0 winning percentage. His team won three sectional tournaments, 10 dual meet Heart of Iowa Conference championships and six conference tournament titles. In addition he coached 40 state meet qualifiers with 17 earning place winner medals including two champions. He continues to be extremely active in promoting the sport through his service to the Iowa Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association and his active participation on Iowa High School Athletic Association committees.
