Dr. Richard Manahan
OUTSTANDING AMERICAN Richard wrestled for Bloomington High School back in the 1950s "” in fact, he was a member of the first Bloomington team that Hall of Famer Jim Bowers coached. Jim remembers the young man well and recalls that as a young team captain Richard demonstrated leadership qualities that would contribute to the successes he would realize later in life. Richard attended Illinois State University and earned an undergraduate degree in Business Education and Economics; a graduate degree in Business Administration and eventually an Ed. D. in Educational Administration. He has served as an instructor at Illinois State University, Radford University and East Tennessee State University. From 1968 through 1975 Richard functioned in a variety of roles for Illinois State University "” including Office of the Vice President/Dean of Administration; Administration Services Coordinator and Director of Internal Auditing. From 1976 to 1981 he served as Vice President of Business Affairs while at Radford University. In 1981 Richard was hired at East Tennessee State University as their Vice President for Finance and Administration. Again, Richard's career at ETSU, like his earlier experiences, would lead him to a variety of different tasks and the accompanying challenges. Richard presently holds the position of Vice President for University Advancement/President/CEO of the Foundation at ETSU. Dr. Richard Manahan is extremely well published and over the years his expertise has been readily sought after. Consequently, Richard is a member of numerous boards and committees. Additionally, he has presented workshops and papers nationwide. In recognition of a career marked with numerous achievements and years of dedication, Dr. Manahan has received many awards. He is a member of Illinois State University's College of Business and the College of Education Hall of Fame; he has received the National School Board Association's Distinguished Service Award; the Tennessee Legislature passed a Resolution honoring and commending Dr. Manahan for his meritorious service to the State and to his community "” just to identify a few.
