Larry Winnard
For 35 years, Larry Winnard has served the Putnam City School District as teacher, coach or athletic trainer. He began coaching junior high wrestling in 1974 for Hefner Junior High and earned a Junior High All State Championship for the school in 1976. In the same year, he was honored as the Oklahoma Junior High Wrestling Coach of the Year. Later, he moved on to become coach of Putnam City High School where his teams earned the 4A State Runner-Up Championship in 1977 and 4A State Championship Team Title in 1978. The Oklahoma Coaches Association honored Winnard as District 4 Wrestling Coach of the Year in 1977 and in Class 4A Wrestling Coach of the Year in 1978. He wrestled and graduated from college at Oklahoma State University. In 1989, Winnard retired from coaching but continued to serve the Putnam City School District by teaching. For his long time service, the Oklahoma Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame honors Larry Winnard with the Lifetime Service to Wrestling Award.
