Tom Phillips is recognized for his years of dedication to the development of leadership and citizenship in young people through the sport of Wrestling.

Tom Phillips, a two time all American at Oregon State University and member of the 1973 second-place NCAA team, has coaches wrestling for 33 years. His career began as assistant coach at Marist and Thurston high schools followed by 30 years as head coach at Cascade high school. His teams won 4 Capital Conference team championships and 10 second-place finishes. He coached 87 individual district champions. His coaching career included the 2000 OSAA team title, five top-five and 15 top-10 finishes. His wrestlers won 22 individual state titles, four of which were three times state champions including his sons Brett and Tyler. He coached 11 state runner-ups and 90 state placers. Tom was selected the 2000 0SAA 3A coach of the year, 1989 CASCADE school district teacher of the year, and received the 2003 Oregon governors council fitness leadership award. Tom then became the assistant principal at Cascade junior high school.

For his dedication and lasting influence on Wrestling, Tom Phillips is presented the National Wrestling Hall of Fame’s “Lifetime Service to Wrestling award for the class of 2009.
