Kevin Murphy
Kevin Murphy was an outstanding high school wrestler at Lynbrook High School, capping his career by winning the 132-pound Nassau County championship in 1978.
He then wrestled at the University of Massachusetts for four years, reaching the Division 1 New England Championships finals three times and winning the title in 1982 to qualify for the NCAA Division I Championships.
Kevin has distinguished himself as a positive role model, who motivates hundreds of young wrestlers going through the Lynbrook Youth Wrestling program. It is because of his enthusiasm, commitment, and hard work ethic with these young wrestlers that the high school varsity program is competitive in Nassau County.
He has volunteered and donated countless hours working with the young wrestlers from our community for the past 27 years, beginning before he even had children of his own in the program. Even with his long work hours as the managing director of Citigroup, Kevin still makes the time to run the Lynbrook kids wrestling program. His personal motivation in wrestling is obvious and contagious to the youngsters.
Wrestling is in Kevin’s blood.
He has the gift to be able to inspire the youngsters to be respectful, honest, resilient, and hardworking.
Without Kevin’s influence, character, enthusiasm, knowledge, and support, Lynbrook would not have the successful program it has today.
For all of these reasons, the Downstate New York Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame is pleased to present Kevin Murphy with the Lifetime Service to Wrestling award.
