Richard Smith

Richard Smith began his introduction to wrestling officiating following his graduation from Adelphi University, and has been active since that time, giving him 45 years to perfect his technique.

During his tenure with the Long Island Wrestling Officials Association Rich has served as president, been a members of the Board of Directors, been the official coordinating council representative, and chairman of the Ethics Committee.

As high school official he has achieved all that is possible. He was rated in the top four officials in his section 29 years and has been selected to officiate the New York State Championships six times. Including private and public school championships, Rich Smith has been an official in over 100 championships. He was the 2008 recipient of the New York State Wrestling Officials Award.

As an Intercollegiate official Rich as served in a leadership role in the Eastern Collegiate Officials Association. He has been on the board of directors and chairman of the organization. IN 2009 he was made an honorary, “Life Time Member of The EIWOA”. He has also officiated the Division III National Championships, The All Service Tournament, and the New York State Collegiate Championships.

Throughout his career Rich Smith has demonstrated a high degree of professionalism and maintained his lifelong interest and enthusiasm for the sport of wrestling. The Long Island Chapter t therefore, takes pleasure in nominating Richard Smith for induction into The National Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum.
