Representative Ray McCarter

The term "Outstanding American" can mean many things. The Hall of Outstanding Americans at the National Wrestling Hall of Fame demonstrates pride in those who have used the discipline of the sport to launch notable careers in other walks of life. Although he never won a championship in high school or suit up for one college match, Representative Ray McCarter has spent almost 40 years promoting wrestling in Oklahoma. A coach at Okarche, Mustang and Marlow Central, the Marlow native also officiated from 1970-85. McCarter has worked with the Oklahoma Wrestling Coaches Association Camps in Shawnee. While working with the many he coached, McCarter observed the dedication and sacrifice that helped lay the foundation necessary for the public service he has performed since returning from a tour in Vietnam in 1969. A three-term member of the Oklahoma House of Representatives, the Oklahoma Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame honors Representative Ray McCarter with the Outstanding American award.
