Gene D'Alessandro

Gene D’Alessandro wrestled at St Benedicts Prep School and Rutgers University. Undefeated his junior and senior years at the Prep, he was crowned the National Prep School Champion for two years and three time New Jersey State AAU Champion. He ended his wrestling at St Benedicts with 36 straight victories, a school record. At Rutgers University Gene continued to excel. He was undefeated in dual meet competition for three years, placed second and had two third place finishes in the Eastern Intercollegiate Championships. Gene coached wrestling at Essex Catholic from 1962 through 1974. He also coached at Raritan High School, and Belleville High School. His combined team record is an impressive 212-67-2 includes six state finalists, fifteen Region Champions, and ninety-two District Champions. His wrestlers captured fifteen District team titles and received the number one ranking in their Region five times. A highly competitive person who demanded excellence from his wrestlers, Gene insisted that sportsmanship, responsibility, and humility were all an integral part of wrestling.
