John Tettis

John C. Tettis (deceased) attended St. Leo’s High School in Ridgway, Pennsylvania. After two years in the military service, John enrolled in Lock Haven University where he wrestled under Coach Hubert Jack. John served as an assistant coach at Rancocas Valley Region High School for five years. He became the first wrestling coach of Burlington County College in 1973, a position he held for five years. From that point onward John concentrated on officiating and became a premier official at both the high school and college level for some 42 years. John worked all levels of the NJSIAA wrestling tournament for many years including the state finals for thirteen years. He worked many competitive matches as a member of the Eastern Intercollegiate Officials Association as well as officiating the Junior College Nationals four times and the Division III Nationals Championships.

A contributor to wrestling beyond the action on the mat, John served in a variety of leadership positions: President of the New Jersey Officials Association, Vice-President of the Eastern Wrestling Officials Association for 12 years, and Executive Committee member of the South Jersey Wrestling Hall of Fame.
