Randy Sanders

Randy Sanders was a member of two state high school wrestling championship teams at U.S. Grant High School in 1966 and 1967. But it was long after high school that he truly began to make his mark on wrestling in the state of Oklahoma. Sanders attended Oklahoma State University on a baseball scholarship, graduating from the University of Central Oklahoma as an honor roll student in 1975. He coached at Western Heights for four years before beginning a long and celebrated career as a wrestling official. He wore the stripes as a high school referee for 33 years and as an NCAA official for 20. Over his career on the high school level, he officiated 31 Oklahoma High School Regional Tournaments, 27 state tournaments and 29 Geary Tournaments. As a collegiate official, he took the mat for 10 Bedlam matches, four Big Eight Conference tournaments, two Big 12 Conference Tournaments and one NCAA Division I National Championship. He earned the honor of Oklahoma Official of the Year five times and in 1993 he received the Warren Heitzman Award from the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for "striving to reach excellence in character, effort and perfection in officiating and life." He is a member of the National Wrestling Officials Association, the Oklahoma Wrestling Officials Association and the Central Oklahoma Wrestling Officials Association. For his Lifetime of service to the sport, Randy Sanders is honored by the Oklahoma Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.
