Dan Hinkel

Dan is a graduate of Williamsport High School and Lock Haven State Teachers College and wrestled for both schools. After completing his military service, he joined the teaching staff at Montoursville High School, where he coached wrestling. From 1956 to 1964 he coached Jersey Shore High School, where he produced the programs first District 4 championship. In 1964, Dan re-established the wrestling program at Kutztown University. His tenure included two stints between serving as an assistant to three different head coaches and in 1989 returned as head coach. His career includes 75 PSAC medalists, 86 NCAA D 11 East Regional Medalists and 11 All-Americans. He is a member of the Berks County, Lock Haven and Kutztown Halls of Fame and was selected Kutztown University coach of the year in 1992-93 and 1995-96. Dan was a USA wrestling official holding the M-1 rating. In this capacity, he officiated at State, Cadet Nationals, Junior Nationals and University Championships. In 1986, he was named USA Pennsylvania Man of the Year. He was a PlAA Wrestling official for 42 years and has devoted to the sport of wrestling more than 60 years.
