Don Klostreich
February 08, 1940 - April 22, 2026
After arriving at Sunnyside High School in 1973, Don Klostreich went on to transform Sunnyside High School into one of the most dominant wrestling powerhouses in the nation.
Over the next 15 years he built a dynasty with a winning culture defined by nine Arizona state championships, the first in 1979. After a runner-up finish in 1980, the Blue Devils won eight consecutive team titles from 1981 to 1988 and added another runner-up finish in 1989.
The dynasty was born and it has thrived under the coaches who followed him — Richard Sanchez, Robert DeBerry and Anthony Leon.
Sunnyside has now won 39 state championships, including nine consecutively under Leon.
