Glen Berry
Dr. Glenn Berry has left an indelible mark on Missouri wrestling through decades of dedicated coaching, mentorship, and leadership. His journey began as a student athlete at Missouri Valley College in Marshall, sparking a lifelong passion for the sport. Dr. Berry's illustrious coaching career spans outstanding programs at Carrollton, Kirksville, Columbia Rock Bridge, and Blue Springs High Schools. Over 20 years as a high school head coach—13 at Rock Bridge and 7 at Blue Springs—he compiled an impressive dual record of 141-53-2, led teams to top 10 finishes at State on 12 occasions, secured 5 district team titles, and won 4 conference championships. His guidance produced 3 All-Americans, 12 individual state champions, and 44 state medalists, emphasizing technique, discipline, and character development. Beyond the mat, Dr. Berry innovated the sport by starting the Rock Bridge Tournament of Champions (RBTOC), the original 16-team Christmas tournament; co-founding the Missouri-Kansas All Star Metro Classic Dual and the original Missouri Wrestling Association (MWA) with fellow coaches; co-founding Western Stars Freestyle and Youth Wrestling Clubs; and founding the Blue Springs Youth Club. He served 12-15 years on the MSHSAA Wrestling Advisory Board, shaping policies and promoting growth. After a 30-year career in education—as a teacher, alternative school principal, high school principal, and superintendent in Missouri and Colorado—Dr. Berry retired from administration but returned to wrestling. He assisted for 11 years at William Chrisman, Rockhurst, Lincoln College Prep, and Lee's Summit North. Currently, he serves as Girls Head Wrestling Coach at Lee's Summit North, entering his second season and championing gender equity while inspiring young athletes. His contributions have earned accolades, including District Coach of the Year five times, inductions into the Blue Springs Wrestling Hall of Fame, Rock Bridge Athletic Hall of Fame, and MWA Hall of Fame. Dr. Berry's unwavering dedication, educational expertise (holding a doctorate), and profound impact make his induction into the Missouri Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame a fitting tribute to a legacy of passion, perseverance, and community building.
