Alan Hull
Alan Hull has been a key figure in wrestling circles since 1978. His career is matched by his dedication to his wife, Gwen, and their children: Tanner, Amanda, Natalie, and Will, who are his proudest achievements. Hull began wrestling at Iowa City West under legendary Coach Tom Lepic and continued at the University of Iowa under Coach Dan Gable, he was a member of four NCAA championship teams. He earned a place in the Glenn Brand National Hall of Fame as part of the 1986 NCAA championship team.
Hull’s coaching career spans multiple roles. As assistant coach at Iowa City West (1985-1989) and part of the Iowa USWF/USA Wrestling Freestyle National Team staff, he developed his coaching skills. As head coach at Archbishop O’Hara (1989-1992), Raytown South (1992-2005), Blue Springs South (2008-2009), and now Blue Springs High School, he has achieved a 165-79-1 dual meet record, mentoring 46 all-state athletes, 14 state finalists, and 5 state champions. His Raytown South teams secured 10 consecutive top-ten finishes, earning him Conference and District Coach of the Year honors.
Beyond high school, Hull served as assistant coach at the University of Central Missouri (2005-2008), Athletic Director and coach at Archbishop O’Hara (2009-2014), and assistant coach at Blue Springs High School (2014-2019). From 2020 to 2025, he has been the Activities Director at Blue Springs High School. As Missouri USA National Freestyle Coach (1990-2010) and Head Freestyle Coach (2000-2010), he led Missouri’s first national duals team in Lawton, Oklahoma. In 1995, he founded the Mat Rat Wrestling Club, a freestyle and youth program that is still active today.
Hull introduced live tournament results for the Raytown South Christmas Tournament via missouriwrestling.com and broadcasted Missouri’s first live stream at Fargo Jr/Cadet Nationals. He served as a color commentator for events like the KC Stampede, Metro Classic, and Metro Slam for Spectrum Sports, Time Warner Cable, and FloWrestling. He helped establish the CMSU Hall of Legends, officiated freestyle (1985-2008) and folkstyle (late 1980s, 2013-2014 MSHSAA), and worked in a support role for security for the MSHSAA State Tournament from 2009 to 2025. He also served on the MSHSAA Investigative Committee and as a member of the NIAAA and MIAAA.
Dr. Alan Hull holds a Doctorate in Leadership and Policy Analysis from the University of Missouri, reflecting his dedication to advancing education and athletics.
