Rob Ledin
Rob Ledin began his wrestling career in 1976 as a Vittum Park Viking in the Chicago Park District. Donald Ledin, his father and Hall of Fame member, coached Rob to two state tournaments including a 6th place finish in 1981. A 1985 graduate of St. Laurence High School in Burbank Illinois, Rob lettered in wrestling three times and was named Captain for the 1984-85 season. Rob won the 1985 Chicago Catholic League Championship and the 1984 & 1985 Regional Championship under, then Head Coach, Robert Trombetta.
Rob went on to wrestle at Illinois State University earning his Varsity “I” under Hall of Fame Coach George Girardi. Rob received his Bachelor’s Degree in Education in 1990 and later his Master’s degree in Educational Administration from ISU in 2006.
In 1990 Rob began his coaching career at Hinsdale South High School as, first, a student teacher and then as an Associate Dean and Assistant Wrestling Coach under fellow Hall of Fame inductee Mike Matozzi. After two seasons, Rob left Hinsdale South to pursue a job in the Chicago Park District where he began an IKWF Club at Archer Park. In 1994 Rob moved to Normal Illinois where he coached the sophomore football team and was the Assistant Wrestling Coach for Normal Community High School and Head Coach of Chiddix Junior High School.
Rob’s received his first high school head coaching position at Clinton High School in 1995. While coaching football and wrestling over the next 8 years, Clinton produced an IHSA Dual Team Runner-up finish in 2000 and a Third Place finish in 2001. Rob’s teams produced five OKAW Conference Championships, three IHSA Regional Championships, 36 Individual State Qualifiers, 14 State Placers, five State Champions and 131 dual wins. In 2000, Rob was named IWCOA Head Coach of the Year and in 2000 & 2001 he was named as the Decatur Herald & Review Head Coach of the Year. In 2003 Rob took the Head Coach position at Morton High School in Morton Illinois and coached four State Qualifiers and one State Placer.
In 2006, Rob was hired by Hall of Fame Coach, Marty Williams, to take the helm at Mahomet Seymour High School where he also coached the JV and Freshman Football teams. Initially, Rob taught Physical Education, Health Education, Driver Education and Alternative Education. Rob presently is the Director of Alternative Education and serves as the Head Wrestling Coach. Since 2006, Ledin’s teams have won 10 Corn Belt and 8 Apollo Conference Championships, 14 IHSA Regional Titles, 8 trips to the Elite 8 and 2 Dual Team top 4 finishes which include 3rd in 2022 and 4th in 2025. As of 2025 at Mahomet Seymour, Rob has a 372-117 dual meet record and has coached 69 state qualifiers and 17 State Placers including 2 State Champions.
During his three Head Coaching assignments, Rob has amassed to date a 521-196 career dual record, including 109 individual state qualifiers, 33 state placers and 7 state champions.
Rob has served as an IWCOA Executive Board member since 1999 and has won Bronze, Silver and Gold Recognition Awards over the years for success in coaching. In 2011, Rob was inducted into the IWCOA Hall of Fame and in 2014 he was named IWCOA Man of the Year. In 2018, Rob served as Grand Marshal at the IHSA Individual State Tournament.
The IHSA and NFHS recognized Rob as the State Wrestling Coach of the Year in 2022 and the NHSACA chose Rob as a Finalist for the National Wrestling Coach of the Year in 2024.
Rob and his wife Christa reside in Mahomet, Illinois and have three children, Laura, Kiel, and Jenna.
