Davey Blake

Davey Blake grew up on Maryland’s Eastern Shore and attended Kent County High School where he was a three-time Maryland state champion and four-time state finalist. He finished his prep career with a 141-2 record, was a Cliff Keen High School All-American, and was the Maryland winner of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame's Dave Schultz High School Excellence Award in 1998.
Blake wrestled for three seasons at Appalachian State University where he was a part of the 2001 Southern Conference championship team and finished second at 149 pounds at the 2001 Southern Conference tournament. He transferred to Western Maryland/McDaniel College to finish his degree and wrestling eligibility. He was a part of Western Maryland’s 2002 Centennial Conference championship team and was a Centennial Conference runner-up at 141 pounds in 2003. Injuries cut his junior and senior seasons short, but Blake finished his career as one of the most talented wrestlers to don a Green Terror singlet.
Upon finishing his competition career, Blake immediately stepped into coaching,
After four years as the assistant coach at his McDaniel, he became the head coach and remained in the role for 11 years. Blake coached seven NCAA All-Americans, 15 NCAA qualifiers, 14 Centennial Conference champions and more than 30 Centennial Conference medalists. Currently third on the all-time wins list for WMC/McDaniel, he coached two Centennial Conference Wrestlers of the Year and two Centennial Conference tournament Outstanding Wrestlers. Blake also coached three Chris Crawford Award, presented to the Centennial Conference's graduating senior with the most accomplished four-year career, winners and two Alexander Award, presented to McDaniel's Outstanding Male Athlete, winners.
Blake is currently the head women's wrestling coach at Francis Scott Key High School. In its first four seasons, FSK has seen it roster grow from four to 20. Blake has coached nine girls to the state championship podium while also leading his team to the inaugural Carroll County girls wrestling team title in 2023 and a third-place finish at the Maryland state championships.
He was inducted into the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2012.
Blake lives in Westminster, Maryland, with his wife, Caitlin, and two children, Julia and Joseph.
