Kevin Corbett wrestled for Meadowdale High School where he was coached by Hall of Famer Bruce Cook (NWHOF-2009) graduating in 1997. Kevin was a State Freestyle and Greco-Roman Champion in 1976 and 1977. He won the Outstanding Wrestler award in both styles in 1997 and was a National Greco Placer (5th place) in 1977. Corbett was recruited by Les Anderson (NWHOF 2004) to wrestle at the University of Washington, where he wrestled his freshman year and graduated in 1984.
Corbett started his extensive 45-year coaching career in 1980. He served as an assistant coach then as a head coach for five different high schools. During this time, he worked with Hall of fame coaches Bruce Cook (NWHOF-2009), Bill Herber (NWHOF-2015), Ron Bessemer (NWHOF-2007), and Tom Sewell (NWHOF-2017).
Coach Corbett has coached 14 state champions and 33 state placers. His teams have won four league championships with one undefeated season. At Everett High School, his team placed in the top ten at state in 1996. He has also served as a regional representative for the Washington State Wrestling Coaches Association and was named Regional Coach of the year three times by his peers.
Kevin has been very active beyond high school wrestling. He obtained his USA Bronze Coaching Certification in 2010 and stays active as a club wrestling coach. He was a Washington State Coach at the USA Fargo Nationals in 2023. Corbett also served as one of the WIAA Mat Classic State Championship staff, directing Mat Classic Ceremonies and Awards for 4 years.
Kevin retired from teaching after 37 years in the classroom in 2023. He currently resides in Kirkland, Washington, with his wife Peggy. They have 3 adult children, Justin, Laurissa and Britney. They are proud grandparents to 10 grandchildren: Allan, Andrew, Anderson, Carter, Sloane, Blaire, Luke, Rhett, Rylee and Greyson.
