John Kreamer

John Kreamer devoted more than three decades of his life to the sport of wrestling, leaving a lasting impact on student-athletes and the Central Dauphin community. A graduate of Jersey Shore High School and Lock Haven University, Kreamer’s own wrestling career was decorated with success before he transitioned into the coaching ranks. In 1960, he captured the NAIA National Championship at 167 pounds, won a PSAC wrestling title in the unlimited weight class, and was an NCAA quarterfinalist, establishing himself among the elite collegiate wrestlers of his era.

Following his graduation from Lock Haven in 1960, Kreamer dedicated his career to education and athletics as both a math teacher and wrestling coach at Central Dauphin High School in Harrisburg. Over the course of 35 years, he molded hundreds of student-athletes through his leadership. His teams amassed 377 dual meet victories while producing a steady stream of individual accomplishments that included one state champion, five state place winners, 18 state qualifiers, and eight South Central Regional champions. His commitment to developing competitive wrestlers was matched by his passion for shaping disciplined young men prepared for success in life.

Coach Kreamer’s influence extended far beyond the wrestling mat. Known for leading by example, he frequently performed the same exercises alongside his athletes, from push-ups to pull-ups, motivating them through his actions rather than just his words. Many of his wrestlers went on to excel at the collegiate level and later in coaching careers of their own, citing his mentorship as a cornerstone of their growth. Kreamer’s consistent emphasis on perseverance, respect, and teamwork elevated the standard of the Central Dauphin program for generations.

In recognition of his accomplishments, Kreamer was honored with induction into multiple halls of fame, including the District 3 Wrestling Hall of Fame (1987), the Pennsylvania Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame (1990), and the Central Dauphin High School Hall of Fame.

Regarded as a talented and committed math teacher, Kreamer remains actively involved in his church, community, and family since his retirement in 1994.

Through his dual legacy as both a champion wrestler and a mentor to countless athletes, John Kreamer exemplifies the values celebrated by the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. His career reflects a lifetime of service, leadership, and devotion to the sport, making him a truly deserving inductee into the Pennsylvania Chapter.

John lives in Harrisburg with his wife, Maddie, and adult sons Tom and Ty.
