Scott Robertson
Scott started wrestling at Anniston High School in 1968, under Coach Mac Gilliam, where he was a four-year letterman. The first wrestling competition that he competed in was the first time that he had ever seen a wrestling match. After graduating in 1972, Scott attended Jacksonville State University and graduated in 1978 with a degree in physical education, health, recreation, and dance, with a minor in English. While at Jax State, Bill Farrell, the Head Coach and Athletic Director at Anniston, asked Scott to help coach football and wrestling. In 1985 the coaching bug bit Scott and he was hired at Pittman Junior High, in Hueytown, Alabama. There he coached football, baseball and wrestling. After two years at Pittman, Scott transferred to Hewitt-Trussville Junior High in Trussville, Alabama, where he coached football, baseball and wrestling for nine years. When Clay-Chalkville High school opened in 1996, Toney Pugh hired Scott to start the wrestling program at Clay-Chalkville. Scott coached there for twenty years, winning State championships in football and baseball.
After retiring from the Jefferson County school system, Del Hufford hired Scott to help coach the Pell City wrestling program, where he stayed for four years. The next year Brad Hettich persuaded Scott to help him at Clay-Chalkville as a middle school wrestling coach. The following year, Chris Pike asked Scott to help with the Hewitt Trussville high school wrestling program, where he is now coaching the girls wrestling program. During his teaching career, Scott taught physical education, English, health and drivers’ education. He also coached wrestling, football, baseball, and softball. During his summers, Scott officiated softball and T-ball and was given the opportunity to officiate in the Alabama State T-ball tournament for fifteen years. Scott is also active in his church, First Baptist Trussville, with Men on Mission, Alabama Disaster Relief, the DeNovo Sunday School class, and as part of the kitchen crew.
Scott married my wife, Lori, in 1986. They have three sons: Darren and his wife Kelsey, Craig and his wife Brittany and their children Elliott and Benji, and Seth. They also have a daughter from his previous marriage, Leslie and her husband Aaron Bauck and their son Logan.
Scott's goal in wrestling was not for the wrestlers to have a win at all costs attitude, but to learn how to compete, how to overcome adversity, and to have a love of the sport. Scott would like to thank all the coaches and wrestlers who have meant so much to him over the last forty plus years. Not only the wrestlers that he coached but also the friendships that he has made from the wrestlers of other schools that he has competed against.
