Clint McCall
Clint was born in Anniston, AL on August 26, 1959, to Liz and Earl McCall. The second of 4 sons, he came into the world with several physical problems to overcome. At one point, the doctor said, “Get the boy a dog and we’ll deal with the problems as they come up”.
Being part of a sporting family, Clint learned to fish and hunt with his dad and brothers, and to love sports of all kinds from his mom, a cheerleader and softball player. Clint played baseball and football from a young age and got into wrestling in 9th grade. He even aspired to play some college ball, but a spinal fracture during his sophomore year ended those dreams. And so he turned to coaching.
Clint began developing his coaching skills while finishing high school - football under Bill Burgess, baseball with Ron Burleson, and wrestling with Richard “Red” Littleton. He continued to coach while in college, graduating from Jacksonville State University in 1980, and began his own coaching career at Ashville High School that year (football, basketball and track). He continued to assist with Oxford wrestling, helping Roland Houston learn the ropes, and running several state and local meets. He returned to Oxford in 1982, coaching football, basketball, and assisted with baseball and track. In 1984 he became head wrestling coach, head baseball coach, and continued with football and track. In 1985, under Coach Robert Herring, he became the Defensive Coordinator for varsity football, achieving 3 State Championships (1988, ’89, and ’93). The Oxford Wrestling team won many individual meets, county and sectional championships, had numerous individual State Champions, and achieved 2nd in State in 1985 and 1992. He was named Coach of the Year several times for the Calhoun County Area. Clint also began the youth wrestling program for Oxford in 1999 and has twice served as an Official Observer for wrestling for the AHSAA.
Clint retired from Alabama in 2005 and coached football and wrestling at Newnan High School, Newnan, Georgia, with Coach Herring for 2 years. From 2007-2011 he returned to serve as assistant principal at Oxford Middle School, 2011-2020 he served as principal of C.E. Hannah Elementary School, and then as Student Services Director for Oxford City Schools from 2020-2021. He then retired July 1, 2021 to enjoy life!
Clint has been married to his high school sweetheart, Susan, for 44 years. They have 3 children with wonderful spouses, 2 grandsons (and another grandson on the way!). They continue to be very active in their church and community, serving the Oxford schools in many different capacities, and spend their time following and supporting their family in every life endeavor.
