Patrick Owens
April 05, 1977 - Present
A member of one of Idaho’s first families of wrestling, Pat Owens had a stellar competitive career as a 2X Idaho State Champion, High School All-American, 2X US Open Senior All-American, University Nationals Runner-up, Espoir Nationals 3rd, Armed Forces Champion, 2X All Marine Corps Wrestler, and an NCAA DI Academic All-American. A standout example of the Boise State Wrestling legacy in Idaho, Pat started coaching the USAW Team Idaho while still wrestling in college. He then went on to lead two premier Idaho High School programs at Meridian and Kuna, marshalling his teams to four Idaho High School Activities Association Team State Championship titles, and putting 39 Individual IHSAA State Champions on top of the podium since 2003. His accomplishments have been recognized widely as a 5X IHSAA Coach of the Year, 4X 3rd District Coach of the Year, and 4X Idaho Wrestling Coaches Association Coach of the Year. While the accolades are impressive, the legacy that Pat has built also has to do with building a community of character and commitment that is the gold standard for programs around the state and region. He emulates mental toughness, dedication, accountability, integrity, and hard work as demonstrated through both verbal and physical instruction, as well as through his example. His wrestlers and peer coaches talk about his mentorship both on and off the mat, and how that has prepared them to lead better lives.
