Jerry Seidman
August 16, 1947 - Present
Jerry Seidman started his wrestling career in 1962 at Milford Mill High, where he trained under legendary trainers Frank Treuchet and John Lowe. Their guidance sparked a passion for wrestling that has lasted a lifetime and greatly influenced Seidman’s incredible wrestling career.
Seidman won over 200 matches as a coach and developed numerous county, regional, and state champions. Following high school graduation, he went to Catonsville Community College, where he won the JUCO Wrestling Title and earned all-conference honors in baseball. Towson State recruited him following his win at the JCC event in Athens, Ohio, leading to him becoming a Mason-Dixon tournament champion.
While coaching, Seidman established the Edmonson Heights Westview Junior Wrestling program in 1967, and he continued to thrive in 1976 at the University of Maryland Baltimore County. After, he transformed Paint Branch High into a dominant force in wrestling alongside Butch Hilliard. Seidman also coached at Montgomery Blair High from 1980 to 1986 and later at Walter Johnson High with Jim Meehan and Tom Wheeler.
Seidman dedicated over forty years to teaching physical education in Montgomery County Public Schools, integrating wrestling into his annual curriculum. Seidman’s greatest achievement was founding the “Main Event Showcase” at Eastern Middle, the first known program to incorporate male and female wrestlers.
Even after retiring, Seidman stayed active in the wrestling community, co-coordinating the Montgomery County tournament finals, and singing the National Anthem at events. He lives in Columbia, Maryland, with his wife Sharon, and has three children and two granddaughters.
