Dr. Pete Murphy

September 23, 1965 - Present

· 30 years or service as a high school coach - retired June 2020

· Native of Westerville, OH, moving to Georgia following sophomore year of HS

· 1983 graduate and former standout wrestler and football player at Roswell High School

· 1989 graduate of Kennesaw State University - B.S. Science Education/Biology

· 2000 graduate of North Georgia College - M.S. Secondary Science Education

· 2014 graduate of Walden University - Ed.D. Education Leadership

· 5 years (1990-1995) - assistant coach at Walton HS

· 1 year (1995-96) - assistant coach at Lassiter HS under NWHOF coach Steve Day

· 24 years (1996-2020) - head coach at Walton HS leading his teams to a 317-197 dual meet record

· 3X GHSA state tournament team runners up; 9 consecutive years with top 10 team finishes

·  3X traditional region champions; 4 top 4 finishes at State Duals

· Coached 10 state champions, 18 runner-up and 11 3rd place finishers

· Coached 30 Cobb County tournament champions

· Founded/host of Walton Duals, one of the premier dual meet tourneys in the state, for 22 years

· Hosted annual USA Walton Jr. Raider Tournament (8-10 mats)

· Assistant coach for Team Georgia (4 years); Bronze Level certification

· Member of Cobb County Wrestling Hall of Fame (2018); Cobb County Coach of the Year (1X)

· Served as assistant football coach for 31 years as well as boys soccer coach for two seasons

· Following retirement in 2020 has worked for a design company specializing in sales and design centers

· Resides in Marietta with wife, Lynne; adult children: Jacob (Kelsey), Connor; grandson, Brooks
