Doug Styles
Doug Styles is a native of Cullman, Alabama. After a successful career as a football player at Cullman High School, Northwest Mississippi Junior College, and the University of Tennessee Chattanooga, Doug began his career in education in 1961 at Scottsboro High School.
After winning the 1965 State Championship in football, he followed renowned head coach John Meadows to Butler High School in Huntsville. It was at Butler where Doug joined Hall of Fame and National Coach of the year Glynn Stowe as his wrestling assistant coach. From 1966-1973, Coach Stowe and Coach Styles led the Butler Rebels to 7 consecutive T.V.C. Championships, including the Alabama State Championship in 1969 and 1973.
Along with his coaching responsibilities in wrestling and football, Doug was a high school and collegiate wrestling official from 1967-1981. In addition to hundreds of matches and tournaments, Doug was the Head Official of the Alabama High School State Tournament for 4 years and officiated the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Tournament and the Southern Conference Championships.
Among the many wrestlers coached by Doug Styles are standouts such as Turner Jackson, Byron McGlathery, Gary Reynolds, Rowdy Yates, and Willie Staggs.
Doug Styles was inducted into the Cullman County Sports Hall of Fame in 2009.
