Craig Duncan
Craig Duncan was born and raised in Montgomery, Alabama where he attended Hooper Academy. Craig started wrestling in the fourth grade and wrestled through high school. During his high school career Craig won four individual state championships and two runner-ups. He was a part of two State championship teams. He graduated from Hooper Academy in 1986.
After high school he attended Auburn University of Montgomery. In college, Craig volunteered at Robert E. Lee High School with Coach Jim Arrington and helped with pre-season training. In 1992, Craig became the head wrestling coach and assistant football coach for Edgewood Academy. After graduating from college, Craig accepted a full-time position at his alma mater Hooper Academy. Craig was employed by Hooper Academy until 2004. In that time, Hooper Academy won four team AISA State Championships and five AISA State Runner-Ups. During Craig’s eleven year tenure he coached 50 AISA State Champions and many state placers. During his tenure at Hooper Academy his duties included several roles including athletic director and head coaching responsibilities in football, baseball, golf and track.
In 2004 Craig took the head wrestling coach position and assistant football coach at Saint James School. During his time at Saint James School, the trojans won the 2013 AHSAA 1A-4A State Wrestling Championship and were state the state runner up the following year. In 2013, he was named NWCA Coach of the year of Alabama. The trojans had seven individual AHSAA 1A-4A State Champions and numerous state placers and qualifiers.
In 2015, Craig had the opportunity to coach the only collegiate wrestling program in Alabama at Huntingdon College. Huntingdon had two Southeast Conference Champions Deandre Beck and Jesse Rowlen and several placers. DeAndre Beck won the NWCA Scholar All-American award in 2016-17 and 2017-18 season. In the 2016-17, Huntingdon College also won the NWCA Scholar All-American Award, as a team, by finishing 13th in the nation.
In 2019 Craig made the decision to return to high school wrestling at Pike Road High School so he could coach his two sons Hinds and Myers. During his tenure at Pike Road, he has coach three State Champions and twelve state placers. Hinds Duncan is the first ever AHSAA State Wrestling Champion in Pike Road history.
Craig has been married to his wife, Laura, since 2000. His son Hinds will continue his wrestling career at Huntingdon College in the fall while Myers will complete his high school career as a hopeful state champion.
