Born in Olympia, Washington, Scott Jones wrestled at Timberline High School for Hall of Fame Coach John Birbeck (WNWHOF-2011).  Scott then wrestled at Eastern Washington State University where he was a team captain, graduating in 1987 with a degree in Business Education.  His wrestling coaching career began with assistant wrestling positions at Snohomish High School, Marysville High School, and Timberline High School.  Jones became the Head Wrestling Coach at Lakeside-Nine-Mile Falls High School helping to open the school in 1990, with freshman and sophomores, where he successfully coached for 17 years.  

Lakeside High School became a wrestling dynasty under Coach Jones.  At Lakeside High School, his teams were 11-time league champions, 12-time District/Regional Champions, and 5-time State Champions (1997-1999-2003-2005 and 2006) as well as 3-time State Runner-ups (1994, 1998 and 2002).  Jones coached 18 individual state champions, 94 state placer, 4 four-time state place winners, and 12 collegiate wrestlers.  The Eagles had a dual meet record of 165 wins, 39 losses and 2 ties.

Coach Jones was also active in statewide wrestling programs.  Scott coached multiple national freestyle teams as well as coached Cultural Exchange teams to Poland and Australia.  Jones founded the Washington Intensive Camps to help wrestlers prepare for national tournaments and still volunteers at the Intensive Camps (allinwreslting.com) to this day, now under his son’s leadership.  He supports the Fellowship for Christian Athletes and was often request as a motivational speaker.

In his own words, Coach Jones has been “honored to coach so many young champs alongside such great parents and assistant coaches.”  His guiding goal for his athletes was not defined by their position on the podium, rather by the men they would become as they transferred the seeds of greatness from the sport of wrestling into their leadership roles with families, careers, and communities. 

Jones has been recognized by his peers on the mat and in the classroom.   As a teacher, he was recognized by the governor of Washington with the Christa McCauliff Award for Excellence in Education.  He was awarded the Sportsmanship Award by the Spokane Officials Association.  Scott was twice awarded the State Wrestling Coach of the Year and was inducted into the Washington State Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2010.

Scott currently serves as Executive Vice President of Employee Benefits for HUB International.  Jones and his wife Cheryl reside near Boise, Idaho, and are proud parents of four adult children: Crystal, Levi, Kayloni and Peyton.  They also have 14 grandchildren: Jagger, Jacoby, Jaxon, Juniper, Myles, Kapri, Echo, Macai, Haelynn, Banks, Scott, Layton, Brooks and Hudson.
