John Sullivan
John Sullivan embodies the characteristics of the Outstanding American Award from the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.
In his years of service, Congressman Sullivan has used the discipline of the sport to guide his career as a public servant.
As a high school wrestler, Sullivan learned the values of individual and team leadership. The captain of his Bishop Kelly High School wrestling squad, John competed in the Oklahoma state finals in 1983, his senior year.
Since that time, Sullivan has built a successful career as a small businessman and served the people of Oklahoma. He served 7 1/2 years in the Oklahoma House of Representatives before being elected to Congress in January of 2002.
He has been reelected twice and serves in several leadership positions in the U.S. House. As an Assistant Whip in House Leadership, Sullivan is charged with rallying other members and helping to advance a conservative agenda in Washington D.C. In a short time in Washington, he has been appointed to the House committee on Energy and Commerce, arguable the most powerful committee in Washington.
Congressman Sullivan and his wife Judy have made a lasting commitment to Oklahoma, raising their four children in Tulsa. Tommy, Meredith, Sydney, and Daniel, who all plan on attending Bishop Kelly.
