Randy Thomas

Randy Thomas is a throw back to when wrestling had everything to do with how tough you were. Randy returned to his alma mater and started the wrestling program at Springfield in 1976. They went 52-7 right out of the shoot in their first four years. Springfield was as tough as their coach, who was a Golden Gloves champ himself. Thomas guided Springfield to three state Duals runner up finish in the '90s and lots of tournament championships in between. Randy instituted a skull and cross bones emblem on the Springfield singlets and a wrestler could only wear that singlet by drawing his opponents blood on the mat.

MBA Hall of Fame coach, Frank Simpson said he scheduled Springfield to give his team a first hand experience of what tough felt like. Thomas coached nationally renown LSU strength and fitness coach, Tommy Moffitt, and TSSAA Assistant Executive Director, Mark Reeves.

Randy Thomas was also a very accomplished football coach as evidenced by Springfield's 1993 AAA State Championship.
