Marshall Dauberman
Marshall Dauberman has made a significant impact on the lives of many young men both in and outside of the classroom as a teacher and as a wrestling coach. He has had his share of county, regional, and individual state champions at Sherwood High School in Montgomery County, as well as River Hill High School and the Junior League Program in Howard County.
The wrestling community recognizes and appreciates Marshall's ability to work with all athletes, regardless of their level of talent or experience, to help them improve and grow as wrestlers, but more importantly to improve and grow as young men so that they can become champions of life.
A native of Pennsylvania, Marshall has been involved in the sport of wrestling for over forty years. He was introduced to the sport in his hometown of Selinsgrove, Pa, in 1957, where he won the PIAA state championship. After high school, he attended the University of Maryland, earning three ACC championships and All-American status with a 4th place finish in the NCAA tournament in 1964. He also earned a Bachelor of Science degree in education.
Marshall began his coaching career at Sherwood High School in 1966. In three years, he guided his team to an undefeated season and a county dual meet championship. During his tenure at Sherwood, he also hosted and coordinated the MPSSAA Region II 4A/3A Wrestling Tournament from 1978 to 1986. He taught this subject until his retirement in 1999. Many of his wrestlers enrolled in the horticulture program and have established careers in the horticulture industry.
After a four-year break from coaching at the high school level, Mr. Dauberman decided to involve his two young sons in wrestling. He initiated the Howard County Youth Wresting program in 1991 and coordinated the program with Earl Lauer through 1996.Currently there are over 350 wrestlers in the program, which sponsors two travel teams that compete in the MJWL. The Howard County Vipers is one of the premier junior wrestling leagues in Maryland.
In 1996, Mr. Dauberman decided to follow his two sons, Derek and, Michael to River Hill High School, where he teamed up with Earl Lauer to coach this new school's wrestling team. Their mission was to establish River Hill as one of the premiere programs in the state. Their mission was accomplished in four, short years. In addition to building a successful wrestling program, River Hil also hosted the MSWA
Eastern National Qualifier and Freestyle Toumnament as well as many summer camps. Ask anybody in the wrestling community where River Hill is located and they will tell you in Clarksville, Maryland. After 33 years of coaching Marshall retired in 2002. Sinceretiring, he keeps busy with a part-time landscaping and home improvement business. Marshall and his wife, Jena, have been happily married for
29 years. They have a daughter, Janine, and two sons, Derek and Michael.
