Frank Simpson

Frank Simpson began his coaching career as a student assistant for Gordon Connell at Middle Tennessee State University in 1979.

After working as an assistant coach for his brother Pat at their alma mater Father Ryan High School, he became head wrestling coach at Bishop Byrne High School in Memphis. He continued the strong tradition at Bishop Byrne with multiple state place-winners and a state champion.

When the wrestling program began at Kirby High School in Memphis, Simpson was the head coach. In his five seasons, Kirby won four region titles and had multiple state place-winners. Following a year as an assistant coach, he took over as the head coach at Hendersonville High School in 1990. Simpson coached Hendersonville's first state champion and multiple state place-winners before becoming the head coach at Montgomery Bell High School. During his career, including 25 as the head coach, Montgomery Bell had 27 state champions and 232 state place-winners. Frank was an assistant coach for his son Patrick before retiring in 2025.
