Chris Davis

With 33 years of service to the sport, all at Wapsie Valley, Fairbank, Chris Davis has more than earned accolade that comes his way. He resigned in 2006 to spend more time with his wife and because he felt hew could not to what he thought needed to be done. That commitment to excellence and appreciation for his dot an impressive resume' as a mat coach. His career dual meet record of 314-173-9 places him 16th on the all-time win list. Eight times his teams were among the top 12 at the state Meet and his 70 state qualifiers include three champions, eight runners-up, four third place medalists and 12 who finished fourth. His teams also won seven sectional titles and two district crowns. Four of his former wrestlers went on to become collegiate All-Americans. Three times he was honored as the Northeast Iowa coach-of-the-year. This fall he is an assistant coach for the 34th year with the Warriors' football program where they have qualified for the playoffs 19 times and have won three titles and two runner-up finishes. He has also completed 15 years as the head girls' golf coach. Mr. Davis takes great pride in the young athletes who have help build Wapsie Valley's wrestling program, including current coach Ryan Cox, and building a wrestling program at a school where there was little tradition before.
