Coach

Daniel Walker was born and raised in Polk County. He graduated from Auburndale High School in 1995 and started his coaching career in 1998 at Lake Region High School under Kris Hayward.  Danny coached at Lake Region High School from 1997-2001. Under Hayward, Walker learned the sport of wrestling until they parted ways in 2001. While in his last year, he helped Hayward gain State Runner Ups. In 2001, Danny started his head coaching career at Lake Gibson High School. 

Since taking over the LGHS program, Walker has coached 11 IBT Team District Championships and 4 Dual District Championships, 4 IBT Regional Titles, and 3 Dual Regional Titles. Coach Walker’s teams have also won the 2018, 2019 and 2021 State Dual Championships and the 2018, 2019 and 2020 State IBT Championships. Other coaching ccomplishments include: 16 Polk County Championships, 87 State Placers and 13 Individual State Champions. Danny has also been honored as Polk County Coach of the Year 14 times, the 2018 and 2020 Dairy Farmer Coach of the Year, and the 2018 NWCA Coach of the Year.
