Ron Grigoletto

Wrestling in high school and college, then coaching, then officiating, then administrating, plus community service, and a slew of awards, it is no surprise that Ron Grigoletto has been honored by the New Jersey Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.

Ron was a high school wrestler in Pennsylvania (Portage), a college wrestler in California (State College), but all his accolades have come in New Jersey.

It all began right after college when he was hired to coach wrestling at Long Branch High School in 1961. Shore Regional opened the year after, he was hired and became its first wrestling coach. He coached eight seasons before embarking on 25 years of officiating.

His assignments included 24 consecutive years officiating districts, 22 consecutive in the regions, 15 consecutive in the states, and officiated all Shore Conference Championships until his retired.

His honors are numerous.

In 1990 he received the National Federation Interscholastic Officials Association Distinguished Service Award as the outstanding wrestling official in New Jersey. He was awarded the NJSIAA Interscholastic Athletic Sports Award, the No. 1 Wrestling Official by the coaches of Region 6 five consecutive years, won the Mirshak Award, is in the Wall High School Hall of Fame and the Jersey Shore Interscholastic Wrestling Hall of Fame.

He was an officer in the Shore Wrestling Officials Chapter for 16 straight years, a member of the State Executive Committee for 16 years, State Wrestling Officials Association Vice-President for two years and then President for two.

Among his community involvement was helping develop the Wall Recreation Wrestling program and being chairman of the Wall Township Juvenile Conference Committee.

He has been a high school principal (Monmouth County Vocational Schools), high school assistant principal (Allentown High) and an administrator at Wall High School.

The Ron Grigoletto Wrestling Scholarship, sponsored by the Wall Wrestling Club, is given each year to the outstanding wrestler on the high school team.

A resident of Wall, he and wife Judy have been married 54 years. They have a daughter, Michele, and a son, Mark.
