Clyde Cressler
Clyde wrestled at Newport High School for legendary Hall of Famer, Bob Craig. At Newport, Clyde’s career record was 60-10 and he was a 2X District 3 Champ. In his senior year of 1961, he was the SE Regional champion at 112 lbs. and the school’s first qualifier to States.
Clyde attended Shippensburg State College earning a BS in Elementary Ed. He had a record of 24-4-1 in 3 seasons. In 1962 he won the very tough Pennsylvania State College Conference (PSAC) title at 115 lbs. The always incredibly competitive PSAC featured some of the best programs in the country during those years.
Clyde attended the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy, graduating in 1969. In 2 years, he opened his first pharmacy. He was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 1998, but that did not slow down his drive, or his love of people and wrestling. The discipline of wrestling enabled Clyde to handle the challenges of Parkinson’s and still maintain an extremely busy professional lifestyle as well as his love for his sport. Today he owns Care Capital Management, which owns and operates 18 Medicine Shoppe Pharmacies in PA & NY.
Clyde has been a generous and longtime supporter of the sport his whole life. He financially assisted Newport High School in securing a scoreboard and new wrestling room in 2008. Also in 2008, he started the Clyde L. Cressler Family Wrestling Scholarship at both Edinboro University and also at Shippensburg University. Clyde has mentored children individually in addition to his strong history of supporting wrestling.
He was inducted into the District III Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame in 2002 and was awarded the Bob Craig Youth Services Award in 2012. Then in 2017, Clyde was inducted into the Shippensburg University Hall of Fame.
While still a student at Shippensburg, Clyde married Carol Moore, class of 1966. Clyde and Carol have been married for 54 years and have a son and daughter-in-law who are raising their two grandchildren.
