Jeff Saxon

Jeff Saxon was born in Birmingham, AL in 1965 and graduated from Hewitt-Trussville High School in 1983. Jeff was a three-year varsity letterman in wrestling at Hewitt-Trussville and a member of the 1983 State Championship team, the first state championship for Hewitt-Trussville in any sport. Jeff began wrestling in 7th grade (1977-78) at Hewitt-Trussville Junior High School for Coach Ronnie Page. In his 9 the grade season (1979-80), Jeff completed an undefeated season by winning the Jefferson County Championship. Jeff moved on to Hewitt-Trussville High School, where he started for the varsity team and placed 1st at Sectionals his Sophomore, Junior, and Senior years. At the AHSAA State Tournament, Jeff placed 5th his Sophomore year, 3rd his Junior year, and 1st his Senior year. Jeff was selected as Team Captain and finished with a 35-1 record during his State Championship season. Jeff compiled an 88-7 record during his three-year varsity career at Hewitt-Trussville. After high school, Jeff went on to wrestle two years in college (Freshman year at Columbia Univ.; Sophomore year at Stetson Univ.). After his Sophomore year, Jeff decided to return home to complete his college education. Jeff graduated from the University of Alabama in 1987 with a BA degree and went on to earn Masters degrees in Education (1992) and History (1995) at the University of Alabama, Birmingham. It was after graduating from Alabama in 1987 that Jeff began his officiating career. In the fall of 1987, Hall of Fame Official/Coach Jack Burton informed Jeff that he would be officiating wrestling in the upcoming season. Jeff started his officiating career learning from those he considered to be the best in the sport. Hall of Fame members Jack Burton, Randy Haught, Van Phillips, and Rick Lampkin were incredible mentors during his first years of officiating. After Jack Burton retired from officiating in 1997, Jeff took over as Head Official/Booking Agent for the Birmingham Wrestling Officials Association. Jeff is still an active official and head of the Birmingham Association, just completing his 34th season as an AHSAA wrestling official. During his 34 years of officiating, Jeff has called 34 AHSAA State Championship Tournaments, 41 AHSAA Sectional/Super Sectional Tournaments, and 4 AHSAA State Dual Team Finals. Jeff has been recognized as AHSAA District Official of the Year and State Official of the Year numerous times during his officiating career. Jeff and his wife, Pam, have been married for 33 years. They have two sons, Jake and Luke.
