Hezzie Morgan
Hezzie D. Morgan, III was born on January 11 th , 1952 in Jasper, AL to parents Hezzie Morgan, Jr. and Lillian Underwood Morgan. Coach Morgan's father was in the Air Force so the family traveled often, living in California and Japan. Although Coach Morgan began his elementary schooling in Japan, his family soon returned to Alabama where he grew up. Coach Morgan enrolled in Walker high school in 1966, and joined the football team. In 1968 the new Head Football coach, Coach Karabaz, after suffering through a dismal first season instituted the Walker Vikings Wrestling Team. Coach Morgan was the team's Captain for the first two years. Coach Morgan was given a football scholarship to Florence State University after high school graduation in 1970, where he graduated with a BS in Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance with a minor in History and a commission as a 2nd Lt. in the US Army. Once out of the Army, Coach Morgan returned to his family and home in Alabama where he began to teach and coach at Curry HS later moving to Dora HS. During his first year at Dora coaching football and basketball, it was accidentally discovered that Coach Morgan was once a high school wrestler, and he was immediately assigned to assist the team. In 1984 Coach Morgan became Head Coach of Dora wrestling and served in that position until transferring to Walker HS where he reinstated Walker's Wrestling program. In 1989 Coach Morgan moved to Michigan and headed the River Rouge HS Wrestling program until 2005. Coach Morgan and Mrs. Sherina Morgan married in 2006 and move to Jasper and began teaching at Dora HS where she taught English and he became Dora's wrestling coach again until his retirement in 2017. Coach Morgan continued to serve as Dora's wrestling coach for two more years. At Dora HS the program celebrated 10 Alabama State Champions, 2011 Alabama State Championship Runner Up, 11 straight years as Walker County Champions, numerous tournament championships, 30 Alabama All-Staters, and 73 State Qualifiers. Team members earned their own money and experienced wrestling camps in Georgia, Ohio, Nebraska, Florida, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania. Besides being married to his beautiful partner Sherina Morgan, Coach Morgan is father to 3 daughters, grandfather to 8, and great grandfather to 1 (9 month old baby boy).
